James Auger and Jimmy Loizeau are UK-based designers with a taste for the unique when it comes to alternative energy. These scientist-inventors are among a small group of creative thinkers that are designing a series of household products powered by the dead bodies of flies and mice. That’s right, dead bodies. In fact, these devices actually kill the pests and digest the carcasses for energy.
Everyone knows that traditional wall outlet chargers for cell phones and rechargeable electronic devices use phantom power. In other words, even when the device is not plugged in to the charger, if the charger is still plugged in to the wall, it is still using power while you are out doing your thing. Many experts advise unplugging your device chargers when not in use, but this can be inconvenient.
Innovation giant IBM has created a new environmental unit introduced by CEO Samuel Palmisano in November 2008. The new business unit idea was one of 10 new projects to emerge from an unprecedented online brainstorming initiative among IBM employees and third-party clients. The Big Green Innovation project is now gaining momentum. In April 2009, IBM aligned with the Nature Conservancy of Arlington, Virginia (USA) by way of the Great Rivers Partnership.
The term green building or going green entails much more than just reducing energy consumption. The greening of a building includes improving the healthful nature of the building for improved human use. By improving the interior environment, human health and productivity are also improved.
